Local businesses enter Tulsa Sports Commissionís Bassmaster Classic Commemorative Challenge

2.14.2013
With the Bassmaster Classic right around the corner, the Tulsa Sports Commission is offering local businesses the chance to hang the biggest bass in town on their own walls by participating in the Bassmaster Classic Commemorative Challenge.

Companies like BOK Financial, Hall Estill and Cubic are entering customized, 29” mounted largemouth bass replicas in hopes of winning the challenge, which will be judged by Bassmaster Classic attendees at the Outdoor Expo Feb. 22-24, and on social media at Facebook.com/TulsaSportsCom and Twitter @TulsaSportsCom.

“This is such a huge event for the Tulsa region,” said Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission. “We wanted to be sure local organizations had a way to commemorate the Bassmaster Classic and get involved with the event in a fun way.”

The Classic, the championship of bass fishing known the world-over as the premiere angling tournament, comes to town next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, bringing with it roughly $26 million in economic impact and three days of high-powered events including the Outdoor Expo, where the fish will be displayed. The Classic is presented by Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa.

“The Bassmaster Classic is a community opportunity to show some 100,000 attendees how great Tulsa is,” said Jeff Stava, TSC Bassmaster Classic local organizing committee chair and COO of Tulsa Community Foundation. “The region will be showcased in national coverage of the event. We wanted to be sure Tulsa felt like they really had their hand in the success of the Classic, and had a way to remember it after it was over.”

With the fish, each participant receives 2 VIP passes to each day’s live weigh in at the BOK Center, which includes access to the hospitality area. The winner of the Classic Commemorative Challenge, decided by public vote, will receive top of line fishing gear from Zebco.
